Mind Body Psychology

“Health is a state of complete harmony of body, mind, and spirit. When one is free of physical disabilities and mental distractions the soul opens.” —B.K.S. Iyengar.

Mind Body Psychology is based on the premise that developmental and emotional health is inexorably linked to our physical health and wellbeing. In other words, our state of mind effects our physical health, and our physical health inevitably effects our state of mind. Research has highlighted this link in a host of different challenges, from Autism, ADHD, depression and anxiety, and even post-traumatic stress disorder. Treatment must therefore take a holistic and mindful approach so that this mind body partnership can work for the client in a healthy way. Of course, this may look different for every client: psychoeducation and intervention may also include a brief yoga sequence, relaxation exercises, breath work, movement work, an awareness of sensory needs, or other interoceptive exercises.
